C3 Signature Event: #SHEbuildsHouston Career Exploration
#SHEbuildsHouston is a career exploration event designed to introduce young women to the many career opportunities the construction industry offers. Discover how we are building the future of the craft workforce.
#SHEBuildsHouston 2025: That’s a Wrap
This year, we proudly celebrated the 5th session of #SHEBuildsHouston. This initiative started as a spark in the minds of a few dedicated volunteers and has grown into a citywide force for change. Born from the belief that young women deserve a place at the table (and on the jobsite) in the construction industry, this event has opened doors, minds, and career paths for students across Houston.
What began as a grassroots effort, district by district, has blossomed into a movement. Each year brought different levels of success, different stories, and new faces — but one thing remained constant: growth. Growth in attendance, in partnerships, in awareness, and most importantly, in impact.
The volunteers who’ve poured their energy, time, and talent into making this event a success deserve a standing ovation. You built this. You showed up year after year, proving what’s possible when community comes together with purpose. Hosting 1400 students at HISD last week was an epic way to end an era and get ready to launch a new chapter. I’m a little sad and yet so excited to say #SHEbuildsHouston that’s a wrap.
Here’s to building a new future!
Introducing #SHEandWEbuildHouston: A Movement for the Whole Future Workforce
In 2026, we’re evolving. We’re expanding. We’re launching a new, inclusive vision that still celebrates and uplifts young women — but now opens the door for young men as well.
Welcome to #SHEandWEbuildHouston.
The name may be new, but the mission stays the same: expose students to the wide world of construction, engineering, and the skilled trades — careers that build futures, families, and entire cities.
This next phase of the movement will focus not just on individual districts, but on connecting the whole city. We’re scaling up, shaking things up, and rethinking how we engage with students, educators, partners, and communities.
What’s Changing in 2026:
- Two-Day Event: One day will remain exclusively for young women to ensure we continue to foster an empowering space for exploration and confidence-building. The second day will welcome all students, bringing a more inclusive experience that reflects the real world of work.
- Citywide Collaboration: No more siloed efforts. We’re calling for alignment across districts, industries, and organizations to create something Houston has never seen before.
- A Committee for Change: We’re forming a powerhouse Planning Committee to take #SHEandWEbuildHouston to the next level. Our first committee call in 2019 garnered over 40 people and standing room only, I’m excited to see what this kick-off will bring.
